Big Girls need Fashion Sense too

collageCLoset1.jpg

Today while rummaging through my closet full of dresses, blouses and tons of cardigans, I realize hitting 40 soon has really changed my style. I use to be a lot more “hip” in my own sense. But being hip accommodates your age. I still feel in my 20’s but staring at my closet, I definitely am reminded I am no longer so. I have collected more cardigans in the past few years that I’d ever imagine. There is nothing wrong with that, however, the thing is I use to hate cardigans and sweaters. That was in my 20’s through my mid-30’s. And then one day, I discovered how nice they can made me..feel. Not look. Mind you that I am only 39. I am not ‘old’ yet however, I need to get out of my “20s” mind set and start taking better care of myself physical. Here are a few things and ideas I have been brainstorming about changing my fashion sense, while I present my age comfortably. And more importantly, improve one’s confidence.

1) Accessorize with jewelries and scarves. I mean clean and nice necklace statements that will make me look a little more formal or neatly dressed. I don’t like earrings much. I will do rings and necklaces. Scarves are my favorites but its not something you can wear all year round. I do enjoy them mensely during the winter.

2) Change my hairstyle. If you know me, I have really thin and flat hair. I discover recently that it is okay to buy additional fake hair extension to volumize it. For the longest time, I didn’t know what to do with my hair anymore but pull it back in a pony tail. This continue to make me look older then I am. If you don’t like extensions, sometimes, a new hairdo or cut can change your look. Try it. Hair grows back.

3) Lastly, find time to spa treat yourself. After a long day of bustling school or work, home and family, I appreciate a me time now. I always took for granted because I would refuse to pamper myself and think it was a waste of money. But now, I cant wait for my next session. Holidays are coming up so I am booking one for myself. No matter what age, losing yourself with some me time can change your style. Even if its temporarily, every moment counts.

Cleaning out the Little Closet.. Literally

I realize that if I cannot organize my personal things at home then in my general life, I am just as of hot a mess. Recently, I’ve been putting time into throwing things out or donating what is still good from the jewelry and make up sections. That one day I may need it mind set needs to be erased from my head forever. So today, I was able to hang up some jewelry neatly, throw some hair pieces in a drawer with enough space and downsize my scarf collection. The scarves were the hardest to get rid of as I am a vivid scarf collector. *Not Shown

There are 3 questions you should ask yourself before hoarding becomes a problem.

  1. Do your find yourself using it in the next 6 months?
  2. When was the last time you used it?
  3.  Are there too much dust on it?

Ok, question 3 may answer questions 1 and 2 for you but I have set aside these questions for myself. Sometimes, all 3 will help you comprehends the situation. The holidays sales are the worse for me because right after it, comes all those luring 50-75% off sales that I truly do not need to tend to. A great note to self, there will always be another year of those wonderful clearance.

Fave-Past-Time Korean influence Summer Wear

As summer comes to an end, I wanted to share some of the summer highlights that I encountered through various picks of my fave past time street summer wear. They are nothing special but still stood out to me. With the wavering heat and clear skies most of us had depending on your region, it was easy to throw on less clothes.

klklkl
I like the USA tee in this one. Notice it does not plain take over the shirt but only the top. It makes a nice fashionable statement.
uioi
Im not big on overalls but this suspender skirt was really cute and caught my eyes instantly.
summer wear tank
Cant go wrong with denim shorts and a tank tee with graffiti on it.
stripwear
I dont know if I will ever find myself wearing pants like this anymore since Im feeling passed that age, however, they also drew me in when I found these pics. It is all about the pants. They only time I may consider putting stripe pants on. She makes them look cool.
skull outfit
This can come through as an autumn wear but I included this because of the big bold sweater she has on. I love it. Black and white can never go wrong.
oi
Simple and chic at the same time. Love the colored paints with the black leather jacket. Something I can see myself wearing most of the time.
kjk
Such a girly look but polk-a-dots are so fun to wear if they fit you right. She just looks ready for summer.
jkj
Another fun usual street wear you will see common. Denim jacket and a pink skirt go well together. Its a quick throw on without much effort for the summer. To add with the simple plain look, wear a tee with some statement as she has a zebra animal print on.

Boy shorts and shoes are the statement for me here. You dont have to try to hard and be comfortable yet still make a good street fashion icon.

Random Korean Fashion review – early Autumn wear

I don’t know why I haven’t done one of these but here I go. I adore Korean fashion quite much. Let me add as well, that not all posted are from Korean sites but are inspired. I don’t find myself in them often, since come on, let’s be real they won’t carry it in my size. Sure, if it does not fit oneself to begin with, they aren’t made for me, you’d think. I don’t care. It’s still nice to be inspired. Anyhow, I still like to search and pair up styles. Here are just a few pics from online I’ve chosen as “I’d like to have in my closet” forever.

I’ve been obsessed with leather sleeves with softer fabric lately. Pretty much anything that you can patch leather with that’ll make it look edgy but still chic.

Prints are always fun if they aren’t over the top. I like tribal wears and colors that can be bright but not too bold.

Sweaters are always fun as well if they fit you well and if you know how to shop for them. They no longer are your traditional sweaters at Walmart. These babies can be styled differently. You don’t even need much to style, just throw these only and your fashion statement is done for the day!

(below) This low cut hoodie sweater with sleeveless arms are super fun to wear. I think you can pull this off during the summer nights.

Simple Design Women's Solid Color Sleeveless Hooded Sweater

The next picture with just a pain plaid red tee and plain gray front is seemingly one of my favorite picks. It may be simple but so stylist at the same time. Street stylist that is. I love the two tone color. Its such a great design. I actually wanted to order this for myself.  You can find it on bluelans.com. It is wholesale but you can buy them one piece. Just check for shipping since it is overseas.

This pair of boots or whatever you may want to call them caught my eyes. They aren’t Korean but they really stood out for me when I was searching for shoes. I know I may never be able to wear them but they are super fancy, sexy and pretty at the same time. Also, might I add that they may not look so comfortable? If anyone knows the brand, do post it down. I think its a pretty expensive brand name if I am not correct.

There isn’t anything fancy about these purses below it may seem. But I just adore them because of their shape and fun size.

Let me just say, I’ve never appreciated printed tees before but these are so cute and comfy looking to sport on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

That is about it. What are your styles and do these suit your taste?

Another Woman’s Treasure! Thrift Cardigan & Sweater Haul

20141114_224150

There is something about the cold that I enjoy hitting up the thrift stores for sweaters and cardigans this time of year. That is because there are tons of them no one would think of ever looking. I am selective about what kind of clothing I get from 2nd hand stores but finding these were like finding gold in a gold mine for sure. Normally, jackets, cardigans and dresses are about the only things I’d buy from used store. Just a personal preference of mine. All the tops I found were all still in very good condition, if not even better. I was in need of some longer sleeve wear since the office has been a lot cooler then usual. I get disappointed when I do not find the kind of sweaters I like at regular stores. Or sometimes they may come with a price tag that would only put a hole in my wallet. So, I decided to hit up two thrift stores in my area. I found some awesome steal at Value Village in the cardigan and sweater sections right away. Was thrill to find 5 tops for under $23 bucks! It was also half off on the purple tags that Friday evening and one of the sweaters I picked was half off. I found a few of the sweaters under brand names and were still in mint condition. I mean really, not worn, not faded nor holes in it at all condition. I couldn’t be more satisfied with my savings in such a long time of shopping. Now I am on a mission for the rest of winter.

Anyhow, here’s a quick load down and style I put together with my accessories. As I said, most of these were in such nice condition, I believe one likely brand new. I was told that sometimes stores donate brand new items if it no longer wants to carry that item or its out of style for that season. Wooohoo! I know most of these colors I picked are very similar but they are also different styles that I can wear with my outfit of the day. I normally wear darker tone colors but with these I am able to wear brighter tops inside. Besides, its winter so these couldn’t make better color coordinating!

Oh yes, if you plan to shop at Value Village now through Xmas eve, don’t forget to use this club card you can get when you cash out at the register. Each time you purchase something,  you get a stamp over your numbers until you reach your 15th purchase. Received a 30% off the 16th purchase.  Or if you bring donations into the store, this also earns you red circle stamps. A really cool idea for the holidays. Save more on savings! Check out more details on the club card.

Another heart-filled but guilty weekend haul

I actually went on this weekend haul a few weeks back. It was just one of those weekends when you felt like breaking your bank with no care in the world after a furious week with work, school and home. Not a grand idea so I shouldn’t being doing it again. Nor I suggest anyone else does. It was just guilt by Monday morning at work. But I heart what I founded, random and all..here’s just a few minor things which added up the most from my list down. I didn’t add any clothing haul cause that’ll be for a winter haul I will post much later on.

Aromabeads ‘frosted berries’ candle – best smell yet!

Forever 21 make up bag

mini owl tree ornaments – from Target

casual taupe boots – Ross

Beaded cap & leopard aqua infinity scarf – Charlotte Russe
Nine West wallet – Ross

Silver Candle holder Owl – Marshall

Revlon buffer – Shine in minutes! – Target (random buy but much needed)

Autumn cozy haul

I don’t know what it is about fall that encourages me to go out and buy things for that season.  Summer is gone now. So it is time to whip out the coziness. Did a little haul actually in September.I am trying to minimize the shopping or hoarding of unnecessarily things but I allowed these as must haves.

I am currently obsessed with owls right now. They are too cute to not have. I promise I won’t go crazy like I did with elephants a while back but they really must be the trend because I am suddenly noticing them everywhere I shop.

Got the first owl from the dollar store. I am thinking of spray coloring it but then its so cute and vibrant with its colors, I am going to leave it as is. And then the white owl was found at Ross. It is a potpourri owl where you can fit it under with its hole. It smells lavender and rosey on my mantle right now.

More inspired fall I found were these Sinful autumn colors. Can’t wait to play with them! I have been trying to experiment Ombre designs when I can. The bright red one and dark brown are my two faves right now. I believe I got these at Rite Aid when they had a sale going on.

And we know Halloween is around the corner. Decked out my desk at work earlier than usual this year with a few festivity. At Target, they had these in the dollar section if you have not spotted them already. The pumpkin was grabbed at Albertson’s.

Ahh, my favorite colors right now. More festivity and needful things to decor the home. And a baking bread sheet for the holidays to come. Banana bread is in mine!

And how can we forget candles to lighten the mood? I was never a candle person before but I needed some nice smell to cover up the bad in the home at times. So I grabbed some Yankee candles at Bed, Bath and Beyond last month. I love this candle although I bought some pumpkin flavors too for this season, the lavendar was just alot more pleasant. This was on clearance for under 10.xx which was a good deal. The quality and smell lasts well and its not mess at all.

I know, as if I needed more mugs but it was so cute. And I don’t have anything similar to this. It is alot bigger then it looks on picture. It comes with a flower shaped plate on bottom. This is great for winter hot cocoas! I am ready for a drink tonight.
